Our first awareness raising event for the Elizabeth Chanakira Cancer Trust (ECCT) took place today at Masibanda Lodge in Hillside Harare. It was a Cervical Cancer Awareness Coffee Morning where a group of ladies were invited to come along and participate in sharing what they know about cervical cancer as well as participate in a photo-shoot. It was a very informative event where we had a mixture of women from different racial and socio-economic backgrounds finding common ground in this very pertinent issue that affects women across the board. There will be more coffee mornings and various other events over the next five weeks which will also include breast cancer awareness as this is generally the focus for the month of October.

Announcing a new Project: Elizabeth Chanakira Cancer Trust
The Art of Being Humane has adopted the Elizbeth Chanakira Cancer Trust (ECCT) as its second project in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The ECCT project will be a combination of Awareness raising of the trust as well as the various cancers that are prevalent in Zimbabwe and affecting its people. We will have a keen focus on the stories of individuals and their experience of cancer, early testing, treatment and palliativ care.
We will spearhead campaigns that will be centered around two key points:
1. Awareness raising and distribution of vital medical and social health information that will allow the general public to identify the necessary services they require for counseling, information testing and treatment of as many cancers as there are services in Zimbabwe.
2. Assisting the centre to set up a group or association that will be responsible for the long term support through awareness raising events, fundraising and sharing the stories about cancer: survivors and those who caught it too late; as these are the stories that really matter.
We look forward to working closely with the ECCT management team and board to achieve our objectives.
Please support this project by keeping in touch with what we are doing here on our blog and on our facebook page here.
We will also require yor support in spreading the stories we will be sharing with you and giving in any way you can to raise awareness of the many early detection tests available to avoid cancer reaching end stage.
Our relationship wit the ECCT has begun this September with a focus on Cervical Cancer and next month Breast Cancer. We will be running various coffee mornings, test centers and fundraisers during the two months to bring information and awareness to as many different women groups in Harare as possible and beyond where we are able. Join us is spreading the stories that really matter and sharing vital information that will save lives.

The Art of Being Humane has adopted the St. Giles Medical Rehabilitation Centre as its first African project in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The St. Giles project will be our ground breaking project in Zimbabwe and will be a combination of Awareness raising of the type of service it is, who accesses their services and its relevance in the context of Harare medical provision today.
We will spearhead a campaign that will be centered around two key points:
1. Filling the funding gap in the short term by fundraising to meet urgent needs in the centre.
2. Assisting the centre to set up a group or association that will be responsible for the long term financial support through fundraising and sharing the stories about St. Giles that really matter.
We look forward to working closely with the st. Giles management team and board to achieve our objectives.
Please support this project by keeping in touch with what we are doing here on our blog and on our facebook page here. We will also require yor support in spreading the stories we will be sharing with you and giving in any way you can to make St. Giles the kind of place you would want your family and friends to rehabilitate in in the event of the need ever arising.
If you are keen to get involved either by donating or you know more about the project you can contact our project coordinator Donna-Ray Campbell via email @ artbeinghumane@gmail.com.

St. Giles Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Harare, Zimbabwe
St. Giles is a medical rehabilitation centre and the only one in Harare, Zimbabwe. It gives post stroke, major accident / brain injury patients the ability to regain their motor skills and use limbs that were rendered inactive. St. Giles also has two dormitories one for boys and one for girls and a primary school on site.
This collection of images were taken during a site visit at St. Giles in September 2011. They are a snapshot of the needs that St. Giles has and they provide an idea of the help that you could give when you partner with us to make a difference in this crucial institution.
