Donation to Alice Mutasa and her quadruplets

In June we heard about Alice Mutasa, a Mbare resident who gave birth to quadruplets at Harare Hospital. We asked you to assist us raise a donation of either cash or kind so we could give Alice Mutasa and her family some assistance as she and her husband are unemployed and from a low income home.

We are pleased to announce that we got a great response from you and together we were able to raise a donation to send to the Mutasa family. The Art of Being Humane Foundation Founder, Rudo Nyangulu-Mungofa took the donations we received to Alice Mutasa at Harare Hospital where she and the quadruplets are still resident as not all the babies have reached the goal discharge weight of 2kg's. Mr Mutasa was at the hospital when we visited Alice and the quads and he expressed his gratitude that strangers would come together to assist his family simply out of the goodness of their hearts. he also shared with us that the government had pledged to give them a stand and assist them to build a house on it so that his family of seven (including their eldest child) would have a place to live as they currently rent one room in Mbare. The four girls are simply beautiful and growing well and he is so pleased with them he told us.

Donation to Mrs Moyana from The Art of Being Humane Foundation

In June we heard about Mrs Moyana, a Chipinge resident who gave birth to quadruplets at Chiredzi General Hospital. We asked you to assist us raise a donation of either cash or kind so we could give Mrs Moyana some assistance as she was unemployed and from a low income home.

I am pleased to announce that we got a great response from you and together we were able to raise a donation to send to Mrs Moyana which was delivered to her by the Rotary Club of Chipinge on our behalf this week. We reached out to Rotary to assist us to deliver the donation as we do not have any volunteers that live in the Chipenge / Chiredzi area and they were more than happy to enable us by assisting us with the logistics of the delivery of  the donated goods to Mrs Moyana.

Rotary Club Past President Vanani Simon Nyangulu connected The Art of Being Humane Foundation with Rotary Assistant District Governor Tina Chirwa who coordinated the donation with Rotary Club of Chipinge. Mrs Chirwa said,

"Mrs Moyana was very grateful. She has a sad story behind her. During pregnancy, she thought she was carrying twins. On the day she went into Labour, she was admitted at her Village clinic in Mabee. On giving birth, only one baby came out. They failed to deliver the other babies. They were assuming that there was only one baby in the womb remaining. She was driven to St Peters Hospital Checheche. Delivery failed and she was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital, which is 90 km away. On arrival, she was taken straight into Labour Ward. It did not take time for the Hospital staff to deliver the remaining 3 Babies. 2 Boys and 2 Girls. Cute Babies as per attached photos. The quadruplets were born prematurely. They will remain in hospital until each reaches 2 kgs of weight. The smallest one is still 1.6kgs. Mrs Moyana has 2 other children. On behalf of Chipinge Rotary club and all Rotarians worldwide, thank you very much for the Donation, which will go a long way."

We are so greatfull to Mrs Chirwa and Rotary for being willing to assist us to make a difference for Mrs Moyana and her family.

APPEAL for Donations: Lizzy Moyana requires assistance with her quadruplets care

Lizzy Moyana 24yr old now mother of six after giving birth to quadruplets in Chiredzi last week
The Need
24 year old Lizzy Moyana after enduring a 12-and-a-half-hour-long labour that started at Mabeye Clinic in rural Chipinge and ended at Chiredzi General Hospital, 180km away was shocked to find herself giving birth to not one but four babies - Three of the babies — two boys and a girl — weighed 1,8kg each, while the fourth one — a boy — weighed 1,5 kg.
Lizzy Moyana who is already the mother of a six year old girl and a three year old boy is currently living along with her children as her husband had left for South Africa to seek employment. Lizzy is a poor subsitance farmer struggling to make ends meat so the coming of three extra mouths to feed, though joyous was also a big blow. “I am happy that I have given birth to live and healthy babies, but the challenge that I am facing now is that I don’t have money to look after the babies. [SourceNewsday Online.]

The Back story
Island Hospice Service (ISLAND) is a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), registration number W.O. 27/79 and stationed in Harare. It was established in 1979 as the first Hospice in Africa.

The initial objectives were to provide direct home-based palliative care and comprehensive bereavement counselling services to people with a life-threatening illness including the caregivers and family members. However, ISLAND soon expanded its activities beyond direct service care towards a community-based programme. This is in line with the vision of the organisation and the desire to spread the palliative care and bereavement concept to the whole country especially to the most underprivileged groups.

APPEAL for Donations: Alice Mutasa requires assistance with her quadruplets care

Mrs Alice Mutasa being assisted by Harare Central Hospital matron Mrs Dade Pedzisai after she gave birth to quadruplets — Sharline, Shanell, Shantel and Sharmaine — (Picture by Munyaradzi Chamalimba)
The Need

20 year old Alice Mutasa a woman from the high density area of Mbare in Harare, Zimbabwe has given birth to quadruplets on the 19th May 2014.  Alice delivered her four girls through normal delivery at Harare Central Hospital it was reported.
Alice says her husband is a self employed vendor in Mbare and she is unemployed. The couple have an older child and the quadruplets made them a seven person family overnight. The Mutasa's are poor and therefore can only afford to rent a room in Mbare which is not ideal for the health and well being of the babies or the family as a whole. [Source: The Herald Online]

Good News Story: Winter warmth comes to little orphans at Matthew Rusike Children's Home

We had the honour of being chosen by a group of lovely Australian ladies with huge philanthropic hearts to identify babies and toddlers who would be the beneficiaries of their donation of knitted clothing and blankets this winter. The ladies made the items themselves with a desire to keep disadvantaged Zimbabwean children warm this winter.
The Art of Being Humane Foundation's founder Mrs Rudo Nyangulu-Mungofa putting a hat on a two week old orphan assisted by Matthew Rusike Children's Home Board Chairman Mr Vanani Simon Nyangulu at the official handover.

On Matthew Rusike Day, 1st June 2014, The Art of Being Humane Foundation's founder Mrs Rudo Nyangulu-Mungofa made an official handover of the knitted goods to Matthew Rusike Children's Home board chairman Vanani Simon Nyangulu. The children who would directly benefit from the donation included a two week old abandoned baby boy that had recently joined the Matthew Rusike Family.

"This is a great gift for our smallest children who are most vulnerable during the winter period" said Mr Nyangulu.

Various 'house mother's' responsible for the children's care at Matthew Rusike were also present for the handover and assisted as Mrs Mungofa dressed some of the children in hats and woolen vests while others were given blankets.

"The ability to link someone [the Australian women] with a talent / gift that they want to use for good and someone in need [Matthew Rusike orphaned children] and successfully bring about a positive change through that connection is what The Art of Being Humane Foundation was designed to do. It is humbling work and so very worth while when you know you have made a difference in the life of a child" said Mrs Mungofa.
